For those mature professionals, retirees, or senior citizens whose passion is not only to travel abroad but learn the language and culture, ICM offers a unique Spanish Language program specially designed for the young at heart. No matter what your level is, beginner, intermediate or advanced, you will learn and improve your Spanish skills by building new vocabulary and practicing everyday useful phrases. These new skills will allow you to enjoy and understand not only the language, but also the culture of a magical and colorful country - MEXICO!

Students of all ages are welcome to study Spanish any time of year at Instituto Chac-Mool and our exceptional daytime temperature (70's-80's) attracts many mature students especially during the fall and winter months. Some of the students coming to the school have never studied a language before, others are enhancing their Spanish skills for future travel or retirement in Latin America. Whatever the reason, we believe you will not only increase your Spanish level, but will have a rewarding and fun vacation where you will meet others of similar age and interests.

Your Spanish classes are weekdays from 8:50 am to 1:50 pm and new classes begin each Monday. Students may study for as many weeks as they like. The class size is no more than 5 students per instructor and your group level will be determined by testing and a personal interview on your first day of class. After classes end all students have the opportunity to study one-on-one with an instructor for a 20 minute session (Monday - Thursday), if desired.

Also offered until about 3 pm are optional lectures and discussion groups. Special topics offered in the fall and winter months include:

• Retiring in Mexico: including the cost of living & buying property in Mexico and health care in Mexico.
• Popular Mexico retirement destinations such as Chapala/Ajiijic, San Miguel de Allende, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, among others.
• Learn about the festivals and fiestas of Mexico to know when and where to plan your future trips.
• Traveling alone in Mexico, safety tips and how to meet people.

Optional evening cultural activities from 5-7 pm include:

• Mexican cooking classes, arts and crafts, movies, and Latin dance lessons.

Optional Cultural Excursions:

• Guided full-day cultural excursions are offered each Saturday.
• Overnight trips may be arranged when at least 7 students sign up. While at the school, please ask for trip itineraries and costs, and ask if your destination of choice can be arranged. See our scheduled excursions.

Accommodations

Many students choose to live with a Mexican family while they are studying Spanish, these homestays can be arranged for you by Instituto Chac-Mool. The homestay option provides the opportunity to practice the Spanish language as well as to experience and appreciate the Mexican culture.

ICM offers homestays with Mexican families that are an easy walk to the school. The families provide three meals a day, and most special diets can be accommodated. If you have a preference, we can place you with a host family without children, and with or without a senior member of the family in the home. You can request a room with a private or with a shared bathroom.

Guesthouses with kitchenettes may also be available. These may be rented with or without meals. A guesthouse with meals gives you the opportunity to enjoy mealtime with the host family that also lives on the property. Mexico City Airport Transportation

We can arrange for a private driver to personally pick you up in the airport in Mexico City and deliver you to your accommodations in Cuernavaca. There are also commuter buses available for the hour and 40 minute trip, a schedule is available on this website, select "Getting Here".
